On 22-24 January 2016, a meeting of PYRN DACH (Germany-Austria-Switzerland) was held in the frame of the 8th AK Permafrost meeting in Hamburg, Germany. We came together to discuss the recent development of the network, ICOP2016 preparation and future visions for PYRN. Christina Schädel (Northern Arizona University), Christian Beer (Stockholm University) and Christian Hauck (University of Fribourg) reported on their career development in permafrost research and opened new perspectives and discussions on a scientist`s life. Samuel Weber (University of Zurich) was appointed as new representative for PYRN Switzerland next to Ingo Hartmeyer (University of Salzburg) representing Austria and Josefine Lenz (AWI Potsdam) representing Germany. During the general AK Permafrost meeting more than half of the 66 participants were Early Career Researchers who contributed to lively discussions and knowledge exchange by various presentations on mountainous permafrost, modelling, paleo- and biogeochemical studies.
